WAM says "Hands Off Fred Hahn!"

The Workers' Action Movement (WAM) says "Hands Off Fred Hahn! Do not allow proponents of Zionism and Genocide against the Palestinian people to stigmatize and silence critics of the State of Israel."

The demand by Mark Hancock, national president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, that CUPE national vice-president Fred Hahn resign is outrageous and unacceptable. Hahn has made it clear that his statements on Palestine are about Israeli Apartheid and the brutal, racist character of the Zionist state, and not about Jews.

Hahn was re-elected earlier this year as president of the union’s Ontario wing in a vote that was widely seen as an affirmation of his policies.

Standing up for the rights of the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, including their right to be free from occupation and murderous bombardment, are a hallmark of progressive labour unionism. Solidarity knows no borders, whether it concerns the fate of non-status migrant workers, climate injustice, the threat to public health care and education everywhere, and the crimes committed by the western powers against Palestinians -- all issues which Brother Fred Hahn has frequently and appropriately addressed.

The CUPE national president should denounce social, political and economic injustice -- not the brave critics of an unjust system fostered by the class of bosses and wealthy rulers worldwide.
